This week’s post is going to be an extremely short one, specifically because I have been in and out of illness these last two weeks.

We all take a certain amount of pride in our work. We like to ensure that the job is done well and accurately, especially if at the end of the day we are the person responsible for the results. But that doesn’t mean that we have to go it alone.

I will state openly and honestly that I am a terrible sick person. I will consume a great deal of soup and fluids when I’m not feeling well, but unless I am physically at a point where driving is an issue I will more than likely show up to work because I love what I do and I want to be doing it as often as I can. I am not the only person in my department or company. I work with talented and brilliant folks that can get along without me for a few days, yet every time illness creeps up I have a hard time sending that e-mail that I’ll be working from home or just be outright sick. This, in turn, actually makes me a pretty bad co-worker as I’m putting the health of others at risk.

As this rambling post continues, we have to remember that it is ok to give ourselves that personal breather from time to time. Getting sick is a way for our bodies to tell us to slow down a bit because we either took on too much or just haven’t been taking good care of ourselves.

So take those vitamins, eat those vegetables and proteins, and get that sleep. Just like we preach to customers, continued maintenance is always better than having to fix it after it breaks.
